Doe Run Presbyterian Church was founded in 1740 in East Fallowfield Township, Pennsylvania. We celebrated our 260th Anniversary with a special worship and communion service on October 1, 2000.
Doe Run’s 260th Anniversary communion service was celebrated on October 1, 2000 by the four ministers who have served at Doe Run since the 250th Anniversary celebration in 1990. Pictured from left to right are Rev. Dr. Mervin J. Fry, pastor from 1977-1994; Rev. Dr. Sarah Taylor, interim pastor from 1994-1996; Rev. Christopher Hagen, current interim pastor; and Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Blair, pastor from 1996-1999.

Doe Run’s quilters made a banner in honor of the occasion. The banner was dedicated during worship on September 24th and was hung in a celebration, alongside the 250th Anniversary banner donated by Central Presbyterian Church, Downingtown, in 1990.

The Basilica Brass provided music during the worship celebration and accompanied the choir’s anthem of celebration.

The communion service was celebrated using Doe Run’s 18th century antique pewter communion ware, which is permanently stored at the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia.

A commemorative wooden “sill sitter” was commissioned as part of the 260th Anniversary celebration. This collectible keepsake is made of wood and depicts the church sanctuary, which was originally built in 1821.

Remembering our 250th Anniversary . . . THE COMMUNION TOKEN
Early American Presbyterian churches observed a practice of limiting admittance to the Lord’s Supper to persons deemed by the minister and church elders to be worthy of receiving the sacrament. The sign of this worthiness was a communion token, given to the parishioner and surrendered for admittance at the communion table. This practice fell into disfavor in the early 19th century, but many communion tokens of the era are on display at the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia.
In 1990, Doe Run’s 250th Anniversary celebration began with a 1740-style worship service and communion. The service featured hymns based on the Psalter, sung without musical accompaniment. Worship participants dressed in colonial garb. And special anniversary communion tokens were prepared and given to worshippers.
