April 2008

Summer Worship Schedule Announced:  Just a reminder that from Sunday, May 25 (Memorial Day weekend) through Sunday, September 7, Doe Run will worship at a blended worship service at 9:30 am.  Session has created a blended order of worship for the summer, trying  to provide the best parts of each style of worship and balance the amount of components from each style.  The projector will NOT be used this summer as songs will either be printed in the bulletin or found in the hymnbook.  The choir will be on vacation for the summer.  Solos or duets any Sunday will be welcome!  Sunday School will be held during the service after the Thought for Children and will be a video series for viewing, hosted by an adult, downstairs.  Fellowship hour will be at 10:30 am each Sunday downstairs.

Doe Run Annual Chicken Dinner BBQ Update:  The Chicken BBQ was held on for Saturday May 3rd and was very successful.  $900 was raised that will be donated to the Church's General Fund.  Thanks to everyone who supported this event by purchasing tickets!  Special thanks to everyone who worked so hard organinzing and working the event.

Helen Mowrey:  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend Helen Mowrey.  Helen passed away April 29th, after a long illness.  The viewing at Wilde Funeral Home in Parkesburg will be Friday night at 7:00 and again from 10:00-11:00 am Saturday at Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church in Parkesburg.  The funeral will be at 11:00 am on Saturday at Upper Octorara with interment in the Upper Octorara Cemetery following the service.  Lunch will be provided afterward in the church hall.  She fought hard these past few days after a sudden decline last Thursday but she slipped away with her husband and daughters at her side.  Please keep the family in your prayers.

Spring Cleanup Day A Success:  Thanks to everyone who came out and helped out with the Spring Cleanup Day.  Everyone worked hard, and the Church looks great!

New Video Posted:  A new video of the 04/19 Fiesta Night has been posted on the Multimedia Page

July 2007

Consecration Sunday Is Coming!

Our congregation’s Stewardship Committee has selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis this fall.  The program is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for their own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive.  Instead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship.  New Consecration Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the question, “What percentage of my income is God calling me to give?”  During morning worship at 9:30 am on Consecration Sunday, September 9, we are asking our attendees and members to make their financial commitments to our Church’s missionary, benevolent, and education ministries in this community and around the world.

May 2007

May 9, 2007:

  • Mark your calendars!  Sunday, May 27th will be the start of our Summer Worship hours.  Beginning that day, there will be only one service, which will be held at 9:30am.  This service will be a “blended” service, which will contain elements from both the Contemporary and Traditional Services.

  • The Christian Education Committee will offer a Children’s Church during the Summer Worship Service.  Children between the ages of 4 through graduates of 2nd grade are invited downstairs after the children’s sermon to watch a “Veggie Tales” video, color, or do crafts.  The Christian Ed. Committee is looking for volunteers to help.  If you can help, please sign up at the entrance of the church.

  • On Sunday May 20th, the junior and senior high vocal and bell choirs from the First Presbyterian Church of N. Caldwell, NJ, will be performing at Doe Run, during both services.  They will arrive on Saturday, May 19th to set up in our sanctuary and rehearse.  Doe Run will provide a group dinner for the group in Fellowship Hall, later that evening.  We are looking for Church families to each take 2 of the students home for the evening.  The students will return to the Church Sunday morning in time to perform at both the 9:30 and 11:00 services.  Can you help our Church host the 30 young  people, who are coming to perform for us?  We need to have 6 homes for boys and 8 homes for girls.  Please sign up in the narthex, or email editor@doerun.org.

  • May 20th  is also Sunday School Sunday, with the Sunday School children participating in the 11:00 service.  At that time, the children will also be receiving their attendance awards.

§   The Nominating Committee would like to remind you that we are beginning our search for people to fill the open positions on the Church’s various boards and committees.  If you are interested in serving, please contact us at nominating@doerun.org.

May 1, 2007:

  • The Mission Study Committee would like to remind everyone that this is data gathering time for them so that they can honestly represent the congregation's desires in their composition of a Mission Study document.  The Mission Study document is the first major step in the search process for a new Pastor.  The Mission Study document, as dictated by the Presbytery, is focused around how the church plans to achieve the Great Ends of the Church in its present and future ministry.  Please fill out and return your surveys at your earliest convenience.  If you need copies of the survey, they are available in the Nicolas Room and on the Mission Study page of this website, and can be deposited in the offering plates, given to the committee members, or placed in the box in the Nicolas Room.

  • The Chicken BBQ is going to be held on Saturday May 5th from noon until 4:00pm.  Tickets are $8.50.  All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Church’s General Fund, and be used to help reduce the Church’s deficit.

  • The Christian Education Committee will be offering a Children’s Church during the summer worship services.  Children between the ages of 4 years old through graduates of 2nd grade are invited downstairs after that weekly children’s service to watch a Veggie Tales video and color, or do crafts.  Volunteers are needed to help, so if you can help please sign up at the entrance of the church.

April 13, 2007:

§         We have a new member in our church family!  Emma Sheila Reed was born to Bob and Liz Reed on Monday, April 9 at 8lbs and 13ozs.  The whole family is doing well!  Congratulations and God bless!

§         Mission Study will be the focus this Sunday.  The Mission Study committee has asked Rev. Dickey to do the sermon on the "Great Ends of the Church" as dictated in the Book of Order.  In doing preparation for this "teaching" sermon, Rev. Dickey will be using a PowerPoint presentation within her sermon at both services, using our newly purchased screen and projector.  This presentation will be background for two coffee klatches to be held (one at 11:00 and one at 12:00 noon) by the Mission study committee.  They ask that worshippers at both services stay after and meet downstairs to give voice to ideas and feelings concerning the future ministry of Doe Run.  This is a data gathering time for them so that they can honestly represent the congregation's desires in their composition of a Mission Study document.  The Mission Study document is the first major step in the search process for a new Pastor.  The Mission Study document, as dictated by the Presbytery, is focused around how the church plans to achieve the Great Ends of the Church in its present and future ministry.  Please plan to attend one of the coffee klatches and give them the feedback they desire.  They also wish for each member to fill out both of their questionnaires that have circulated the past couple of Sundays. They are available in the Nicolas Room and on the Mission Study page of this website.  Completed surveys can be deposited in the offering plates, given to the committee, or placed in the box in the Nicolas Room.

§        On April 15th, the Mission Study Committee will hold two information gathering sessions.  The first will be at 11:00 am, following coffee hour and the second will be at 12:00pm, following the second service.  You are invited to come to one, or both sessions to ask questions and express your thoughts and ideas.  Please bring your completed survey(s) with to discuss and turn in.  Your participationa and input are very important, as we begin our information gathering process.  This is the first step in the process, as we work toward forming a PNC and beginning the process to find a new full-time minister.  Please see the Mission Study page for more information
